Mr. Paga's Classroom

Introduction

Welcome, my name is James Paga and I am the Math teacher on Team 7-2. Additionally, I will be serving as the Team Leader responsible for helping you navigate the hybrid curriculum as we move back and forth between face to face and remote instruction. The 2020 school year will mark my twenty seventh year in the classroom, and I hope to make it a memorable one for you.

My personal academic journey brought me to Muhlenberg College where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and my teaching credentials. Afterwards, I attended Nova Southeastern University where I obtained a Master's Degree in Teaching and Learning. Furthermore, my work with the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, affords me the opportunity to stay current on the current trends and technology being used in mathematic education.

My teaching career began in the Baltimore City Public School system before transitioning to Medford Township. My first years in Medford were spent at Taunton Forge Elementary School prior to moving to Memorial Middle School. In addition to teaching mathematics, I coach field hockey, basketball and baseball.

Grading Policy and Point Distribution

Achievement Grades

Major Assessments (Tests) 50%

One week advanced notice will be given for all tests. Retests may be given at the discretion of the classroom teacher.

Minor Assessments (Quizzes) 30%

A minimum of one day notice will be given prior to a quiz. I do not believe in giving pop quizzes to the students.

Daily Assessments 20%

Accountability

Homework 50%

Homework is graded for completion. All students must show work and must attempt all assigned problems. Although the homework is not graded for accuracy, all homework is checked and edited during class. It is the student's responsibility to edit their individuals papers. Your homework must be completed on the day it is due. In order to receive credit for your homework all work must be shown.

Participation / effort 50%

You are expected to arrive in class every day prepared to learn. This means that you will need a pencil, paper and text book each day you are in class. You are also expected to be an active member of the learning community by participating in class.
