Strategies to help you survive math.
As you may have noticed, math isn’t as easy as it once used to be. You may even feel like this comic above. Have no fear; there are things you can do to try to stay on track!
First and foremost, you should try to get your questions answered as soon as they arise, whether during the lesson or shortly thereafter. Don’t wait!
Homework
My motto is “Review before you do!” meaning, make a practice of looking over your notes and/or the corresponding section in the textbook before you start to do your homework. It may help to clear up any misunderstandings you may have and help you to practice the math concept correctly the first time around.
Secondly, use your textbook. It is a great resource. The odd answers are in the back of the book for a reason. Use them! You may want to do an odd problem even if it is not assigned to see if you are on the right track. Also remember that your textbook may have an example problem worked out in the lesson that may guide you through the process of the problem you are having difficulty with.
Other suggestions:
- Call/Text a classmate or a friend who is also taking the class to help you or work with you.
- Check out the math website list on my page of the school website. There are several websites listed and one might work best for you.
- Attend office hours for extra help. Come with your specific questions, please.
Remember that we all face struggles at some point in our lives. Don’t give up. You will get through this and will be better for having persevered.
“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”
